5. Do not remove more than 4 mils of material when grinding. <br />6. Grind across, not parallel to, welds. <br />7. Cover entire width of grind area with extrudate. <br />8. When restarting welding, grind ends of all welds that are more than <br />5 -minutes old. <br />H. Hot Wedge Welding. <br />1. Place smooth insulating plate or fabric beneath hot welding apparatus after <br />usage. <br />2. Protect against moisture build-up between panels. <br />3. If welding cross seams, conduct field test welds at least every 2 hours, <br />otherwise, once prior to start of work and once at mid-day. <br />4. Bevel edges of top and bottom panels on cross seams. <br />5. Do not weld on geomembrane until equipment has passed trial weld test. <br />6. Extrusion -weld a repair patch over all seam intersections. <br />3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL AND QUALITY ASSURANCE <br />A. General: Manufacturer, Fabricator, and GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR shall <br />participate in and conform with all terms and requirements of the OWNER's <br />construction quality assurance program. The GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR <br />is responsible for assuring this participation. Construction quality control and quality <br />assurance requirements are as specified in this paragraph and the CQA Manual. <br />B. Acceptance Testing <br />1. <br />Allow 4 days for acceptance testing following the date material is available to <br />the QA/QC CONSULTANT. <br />2. <br />Perform acceptance testing on geomembrane rolls. <br />3. <br />The QA/QC CONSULTANT will obtain and test samples. <br />4. <br />Test samples for conformance with design specifications and guaranteed <br />properties. <br />5. <br />Perform, as a minimum, following tests to determine geomembrane <br />characteristics. <br />a. Density: ASTM D792, Method A or ASTM Dl 505. <br />b. Thickness: Measured with appropriate micrometer where applicable. <br />Take 20 measurements across the roll width. <br />C. Tensile Strength: ASTM D638. <br />d. Carbon Black Content: ASTM D1603. <br />e. Carbon Black Dispersion: ASTM D3015 <br />f. Asperity: GM -12. <br />6. <br />Interface Direct Shear Strength: ASTM D5321. The QA/QC CONSULTANT <br />will collect samples of gemembrane for interface direct shear strength testing. <br />The QA/QC CONSULTANT shall perform one interface shear test between <br />the clay liner and textured geomembrane and one interface shear test between <br />the textured geomembrane and the cushion geotextile, as discussed in Section <br />2.3. <br />7. <br />Sampling Procedures. <br />a.
