Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
calculated for PCE at well AMW-12 (Table 2-5). Mann -Kendall trend analyses calculations are
presented in Appendix G.
3.1.5 Corrective Action/Evaluation Program
Field and laboratory results for CAP and EMP wells for the second quarter 2017 monitoring
period are summarized in Table 3-2. Excluding suspected laboratory contaminants, 17 of 28
CAP/EMP wells reported one or more VOCs exceeding a Practical Quantitation Limit (PQL), with
CAP well AMW-22S having the highest total concentration of VOCs (94.46 Vg/L). An annual
report discussing the CAP and EMP monitoring results for the Austin Unit was prepared by Geo-
logic Associates (GLA, 2017) and reported under separate cover.
3.1.6 Cannery Waste Land Application Monitoring
Field and laboratory results for CWLAM wells for the second quarter 2017 monitoring period
are summarized in Table 3-4 and were compared to Water Quality Protection Standards (WQPS)
calculated for CWLAM constituents (total nitrogen, arsenic, iron, and manganese). As shown in
Table 3-4, no WQPS were exceeded.
3.1.7 Domestic Well Monitoring
Two domestic wells (8106-A and 7898-A) were sampled on May 24 and 30, 2017. Table 3-5
summarizes the current analytical results for the domestic well samples collected.
Tetrachloroethene was measured above the PQL in both domestic well samples and DCDFM
and TCE were also measured above their PQLs in the sample collected from well 8106-A.
Estimated trace concentrations of two VOC (each) were also measured in the domestic well
samples.
3.1.8 Vadose Zone Monitoring
The current vadose-zone monitoring network at the Austin Unit consists of seven lysimeters.
The lysimeter locations are shown on Figure 3-1. As shown on Table 2-6A, with the exception
of FU -04W, all of the lysimeters were reported dry or had insufficient soil -pore liquid (5
milliliters) for analysis. As shown in Table 2-66, only a trace concentration of 1,4-dichlobenzene
(1,4 -DCB) was measured in the soil -pore liquid sample collected from lysimeter FU -04W.
3.1.9 Leachate/Surface Impoundment Monitoring
For the Austin Unit, leachate sumps and surface impoundments are inspected weekly by
Forward Landfill personnel. If leachate is detected in a sump, it is pumped into the surface
impoundment WMU F (West) for evaporation. During the second quarter 2017, leachate was
observed at holding areas WMU FU -03, WMU FU -04, WMU FU -05, WMU FU -06, WMU FU -13,
and WMU FU -14 and a total of 694,600 gallons of leachate was removed from the lined areas at
v
Project No. 5017.1030 I Water Quality Monitoring Report 12
July 2017
