Ll
Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
Verification sampling for the inorganic CL exceedances is scheduled for January 2017. For
constituent concentrations in "Tracking Mode" an increasing trend was calculated for DIPE at
well MW -16, and carbon tetrachloride and chloroform at well MW -17. Surface water stations
were reported dry during the fourth quarter 2016 monitoring period. Vadose zone monitoring
stations were also reported dry or had an insufficient volume of soil -pore liquid to sample.
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 Water Quality Monitoring
3.1.1 Sampling and Laboratory Analyses
Del -Tech performed routine monitoring of DMP, CAP, EMP wells at the Austin Unit during the
fourth quarter 2016 monitoring period. Depth -to -water measurements were recorded in the
groundwater monitoring wells on October 26, 2016. Groundwater and leachate sampling was
performed between October 26, 2016 and November 7, 2016. During the monitoring period
both surface water stations were reported dry.
Samples were collected from each sample point with sufficient liquid and submitted to BC for
analysis of the routine monitoring parameters stipulated in RWQCB Order No. 115-2014-0006.
Table 2-1 presents the monitoring schedule and summarizes the analytical methods utilized
during the current monitoring period. Wells AMW-1, AMW-7, AMW-10, and AMW-13 were
also sampled for total arsenic, nitrogen, iron, and manganese for the CWLAM program. All
water quality samples were analyzed in the field for ORP, turbidity, temperature, specific
conductance, and pH and recorded on well data sheets. The groundwater monitoring wells,
surface water monitoring locations, and leachate were sampled in accordance with the
sampling and analysis plan detailed in Appendix E. The well data sheets, raw laboratory data,
certificates of analyses, and chain -of -custody records related to the sampling program are
included in Appendix F. Field and laboratory analyses are summarized in Tables 3-1 through 3-7
and cumulative tabulated data for all monitoring points and constituents for groundwater,
unsaturated zone, leachate, and surface water are presented in Appendix F.
3.1.2 QA/QC Results
The QA/QC program completed for the fourth quarter 2016 water quality monitoring event at
the Austin Unit included analyses of five trip blanks, one field blank, laboratory method blanks,
and one duplicate sample (well AMW-29). The field and trip blanks were analyzed for VOCs by
EPA Method 8260 and method blanks were analyzed for all required analyses. The results of
the QA/QC program indicate that no VOCs were detected in the trip, field, or method blanks.
Calcium was measured at trace concentrations in two method blanks analyzed with
groundwater samples. However, calcium was measured at very low concentrations that did not
affect the interpretation of primary sample results. In addition, concentrations of acetone were
measured in several wells (AMW-7, AMW-11, AMW-18, and AMW-19BR). These values were
flagged as suspected laboratory contaminants since acetone is a common laboratory
Project No. 2016.0007 1 Water Quality Monitoring Report 10
January 2017
