i
i
United States Soil
i Department of Conservation 1222 Monaco Court, #23, Stockton, CA. 9520
Agriculture Service
Raymond Vail and Associates November 13: 1980
1110 Ethan Way
Sacramento, CA. 95825
Attn: Rudy D. Michon
Dear Mr. Michon; =
Attached are a soils map and a "Soil and Capability Map Summary* covering
the area which would be affected by the proposed Harney Lane Landfill
Site.
It should be noted that the effective depths and depths to claypans and/or::
hardpans are not absolute, but vary within ranges. As a result, a depth on
the deeper end of the range could give the soil a better classification
than might be apparent from the summary. As a further example, a greater
depth to a limiting layer would also increase the available water holding
capacity. =
Another factor which has been found during our ongoing re -survey of County
soils has been that some of the pans formerly described as "claypans", are
in fact of a lighter texture and therefore more easily managed.
An intangible but measurable factor in land use is the degree of manage -
Ment of the soils. These soils, if properly managed by ripping, fertili-
zing, irrigation and other practices, are capable of significant produc-
tion levels.
