Equipment
Collection equipment may include:
Compactor Collection Vehicle(s)
Vacuum Collectors (complete units or satellite units)
Street Sweepers
Front End Loaders -
Processing Equipment:
Processing equipment may include the following, or a combination,
of the following equipment:
Decontamination/Screening
Chipping
Grinding
Shredding
Tractor(s) for building and turning windrows, and for moving
finished compost.
Irrigation Equipment
Forced Air Equipment
Finish Screening
• Compost Processing: Composting requires a proper condition of oxygen
and moisture to provide a healthy environment for the decomposition
process. The time required to produce finished compost depends on the
amount of oxygen present and maintaining proper levels of moisture.
Typically, the more aeration the compost receives, the faster it will
decompose. Windrows turned monthly should produce finished compost
in approximately nine months.
Composting materials should result in a raw materials volume reduction
of approximately a 5:1 or 6:1 ratio.
• Compost Applications: Finished compost is a fertilizer and it improves
both soil structure and the moisture -retaining capacity of the soil.
s
