Equipment <br />Collection equipment may include: <br />Compactor Collection Vehicle(s) <br />Vacuum Collectors (complete units or satellite units) <br />Street Sweepers <br />Front End Loaders - <br />Processing Equipment: <br />Processing equipment may include the following, or a combination, <br />of the following equipment: <br />Decontamination/Screening <br />Chipping <br />Grinding <br />Shredding <br />Tractor(s) for building and turning windrows, and for moving <br />finished compost. <br />Irrigation Equipment <br />Forced Air Equipment <br />Finish Screening <br />• Compost Processing: Composting requires a proper condition of oxygen <br />and moisture to provide a healthy environment for the decomposition <br />process. The time required to produce finished compost depends on the <br />amount of oxygen present and maintaining proper levels of moisture. <br />Typically, the more aeration the compost receives, the faster it will <br />decompose. Windrows turned monthly should produce finished compost <br />in approximately nine months. <br />Composting materials should result in a raw materials volume reduction <br />of approximately a 5:1 or 6:1 ratio. <br />• Compost Applications: Finished compost is a fertilizer and it improves <br />both soil structure and the moisture -retaining capacity of the soil. <br />s <br />
