1
CHAPTER SEVEN
MULTI-USE OF SANITARY LANDFILL SITE
Possible multi-purpose uses of the proposed 320-acre site
should be considered. Sanitary landfill sites in many other
parts of the country have been developed for parks and
recreation, agricultural, industrial, commercial, residential
and other purposes.
The future planned use of the site may envision that it
be returned to its present pastoral or other agricultural use,
or that it be considered for open space recreational development .
It will, therefore , be important that the operation of the
landfill site be planned to leave the land level and well drained,
suitable for recreational or agricultural uses .
For the refuse disposal sites in the general vicinity of
the present Harney Lane Site, primary contemplated uses may fall
in the category of parks and recreation or back to agriculture.
Discussions with the Parks and Recreation .Department indicated
a possible recreational use to serve the Lodi-Clements-Lockeford
area. The recreational element of the County General Plan does
not envision a park in the particular area; however, should a
park be warranted in the future, the proposed site may be suitable.
The operations of the disposal site should be planned to accommodate
planting for parks or agricultural use.
The assistance of the Agricultural Extension Service was
solicited and appreciation is hereby expressed for the cooperation
of Mr. John P. Underhill and his staff.
31
