quantity of lubricating oil within the well . The uppermost ground
water beneath the proposed site occurs under partially confined condi -
tions within gravelly or silty sands.
Depths to ground water beneath the base of planned burial cell excava-
tions is generally greater than 100 feet. Capillary rise is estimated
to be less than 5 feet. This estimate is based on data in Lohman
(1972) correlating the height of capillary rise within the grain size
of unconsolidated soil .
As would be expected in a generally fine-grained alluvial deposit,
permeability of sediments beneath the site is low. In situ and labo-
ratory tests were conducted during EMCON's assessment to determine
average permeability values of the unsaturated and saturated zones
beneath the site. Permeability values in the approximately 100-foot-
thick unsaturated zone range from 1 x 10-6 to 2 x 10-8 centimeters per
second (cm/sec) . Results of both in situ and laboratory permeability
testing are summarized in Table 2, including results of testing con-
ducted by J.H. Kleinfelder and Associates (1986) on the proposed and
adjacent properties. A slug test performed in Well G-1 indicated a
hydraulic conductivity of 9 x 10-3 cm/sec for the saturated aquifer
material .
C. GROUND-WATERUALIT
Q Y
Ground water in the eastern portion of San Joaquin County isenerall
9 Y
of excellent quality with low total dissolved solids (TDS) of 120 to
550 parts per million (ppm) . Ground-water chemistry data exists from
site assessments conducted by EMCON Associates (1987b) and
J.H. Kleinfelder and Associates (10a, 1980b, and 1986) . In addi-
tion, chemical testing was conducted by EMCON Associates (1987a) on
ground-water samples from wells on and adjacent to the nearby Harney
Lane Sanitary Landfill . Results indicate that water from monitoring,
domestic, and irrigation wells on and adjacent to the proposed
PJ9 9390207.00D
