existing monitoring wells. The pumps are constructed of Teflon and
stainless steel and are attached to Teflon air and discharging tubing.
The pumps will be certified by the manufacturer to be free of contami-
nation.
Because these wells are larger diameter (4 inches) , EMCON recommends
that a Well Wizard pneumatic purge pump be installed in series with
each sampling bladder pump. The extra pumps are necessary to allow
efficient purging of standing water in the well prior to obtaining
ground-water samples. These pump pairs were installed in 4-inch moni-
toring wells at the nearby Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill and were
found to be economical and efficient.
After the pumps have been installed, the well will be surveyed to
determine the ground surface elevation, top-of-casing elevation, and
coordinates of each well . This will enable accurate determination of
ground-water elevations and hydraulic gradients.
An application for a drilling permit will be submitted to the San
Joaquin County Local Health District with a detailed work schedule and
map showing boring holes, depths, and locations. A valid permit will
be obtained prior to beginning any drilling operations.
PJ9 9390207.00D 13
