Appendix A
SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PROCEDURES
INTRODUCTION
Ground-water monitoring program sampling and analytical procedures for
the Landfill Development Site are contained in this appendix. The
procedures, in accordance with Sections 2500 through 2601 of Subchap-
ter 15, are recommended so that consistent and reproducible methods
are used to obtain samples from monitoring wells and that proper
analyses are performed on the samples. The sampling and analysis
procedures used are based primarily on
• Procedures Manual for Ground-Water Moni . ring at Solid
Waste Disposal Facilities (U.S. EPA, EPA-530/SW-611,
August 1977)
• Test Methods for Evaluating Solid Waste: Phy icaL
Chemical Methods (U.S. EPA, EPA SW-846, 3rd edition,
November 1986)
SAMPLE COLLECTION
Sample collection procedures include equipment cleaning, water-level
and total well depth measurements, well purging, sampling, and sample
preservation and shipment.
quipment Cleaning
Sample bottles, bottle caps, and septa for use in sampling for vola-
tile organics will be thoroughly washed with detergent, rinsed exten-
sively with tap water, and then rinsed again with high purity deion-
ized water. After washing and rinsing, sample bottles and bottle caps
will be dried overnight at a temperature of 150°C.
Sample bottles, bottle caps, and septa will be protected from all
forms of solvent contact between the time of drying and actual usage
PJ9 9390207.00D A-1
