The <br /> substances <br /> bill also requires lessees or renters to notify the prop- <br /> erty owner upon discovering the presence or suspected <br /> presence of hazardous substances. <br /> Chapter 17.0 - Programs for Small Quantity Generators (SQGs) <br /> • SQGs in the County generated an estimated 8,518 tons of <br /> hazardous waste in 1986. <br /> • Over 990 businesses have thus far been registered in the <br /> County. as small quantity generators. Hazardous materials <br /> inventory data have been computerized and made available <br /> to County communications (911) and the County fire <br /> departments for emergency use. The County intends to <br /> inspect businesses subject to emergency . response <br /> requirements once a year. <br /> Chapter 18.0 - Programs for Household Hazardous Wastes <br /> • Typical household hazardous wastes include paints, sol - <br /> vents, oven cleaners, photographic chemicals, waste oil , <br /> insecticides and any products that are labeled poison, <br /> corrosive, flammable, or toxic. <br /> • The County's transfer stations and refuse sites have <br /> implemented load-checking programs to discourage attempts <br /> to dispose of hazardous waste in solid waste landfills. <br /> Chapter 19.0 - Infectious Wastes <br /> • Infectious waste is a category of hazardous z dous waste. <br /> Generators of infectious waste are responsible for seg- <br /> regating it from other waste and ensuring its proper <br /> containment, handling, treatment, and disposal . <br /> • As required by State law, infectious waste is segregated <br /> at the point of generation and remains segregated until <br /> it is rendered noninfectious or disposed of at a sanitary <br /> landfill . <br /> • In the County, 43 local health facilities (9 of which are <br /> hospitals) are under permit and annual inspection by the <br /> Local Health District. <br /> • These licensed facilities are allowed to store wastes <br /> longer -than 4 days (fresh) or 90 days (frozen) if they <br /> have a hazardous waste facility (HWF) permit or if the <br /> PJ9 9390502D.00D 4-7 Rev. 1 11/08/88 <br />
