The San Joaquin County Land -Use Map designates the site and its sur-
roundings as general agriculture land (GA -40 zoning designation). In
addition to livestock grating, several areas are developed for the
cultivation of crops, chiefly grapes (see Figure 3). Approximately 20
scattered residences exist within l mile of the site: the majority of
those are located along either Tully Road or Harney Lane. Since most
water -supply wells in the area are located adjacent to homes, the dis-
tribution of residences corresponds generally to the distribution of
wells (see Figure 3).
Since land use is predominantly agricultural, ground water is tapped
mainly for irrigation purposes, with a smaller quantity supplying
household needs. Barring an unexpected resurgence in farming activity
in this portion of San Joaquin County, no increase in ground -water
pumpage is expected.
D. CLIMATE
The site experiences a Mediterranean -type climate that is typical of
that found in the northern San Joaquin Valley. Winters are cool and
moist, while summers are hot and dry. The mean daily maximum tempera-
ture in July and August is in excess of 90°F, with frequent daily
highs over 100°F. January minimum temperatures average between 35 and
40°F, with maximum temperatures in the mid -50s. Rainfall is seasonal,
with 90 percent of the precipitation occurring from October through
May. The annual precipitation for the area averages between 14 and
16 inches per year according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Central
Sierra Subregion isohyetal map.
9390206.001)
