and organizations to address local business <br /> groups on the subject of source reduction. <br /> Preparation of informational pamphlets or fliers <br /> for distribution to interested groups and <br /> businesses. <br /> Public recognition to local businesses and <br /> organizations that practice source reduction, to <br /> heighten awareness within the jurisdiction. <br /> Provision of information on the State's <br /> Materials Exchange Network to local businesses, <br /> and on the availability of CIWMB staff trained <br /> to perform waste evaluations and provide other <br /> technical assistance in source reduction <br /> practices. <br /> Coordination with other jurisdictions in the <br /> County to produce educational and technical <br /> materials for use by more than one jurisdiction <br /> wherever possible. <br /> 2. Assistance to Residents: <br /> The County could provide technical and <br /> educational services to homeowners in the <br /> implementation of the following strategies. <br /> Encourage homeowners to plant low maintenance <br /> yard and garden plants that produce less waste <br /> whenever practical. This could be a requirement <br /> for all new construction projects. <br /> Encourage residents to leave grass clippings on <br /> their lawns as mulch in order to reduce the <br /> amount of grass going to disposal sites. <br /> Provide information on backyard composting. <br /> Develop programs that would educate thepublic <br /> concerning purchasing materials with less <br /> packaging, using materials that are recyclable, <br /> Chapter 3 - Source Reduction 16 <br />
