PROGRAM EVALUATION:
1. Effectiveness in Reducing Solid Wastes:
The effectiveness of the above policies would be
minimal on the entire solid waste stream.
Nevertheless, County government is a large user of
labor and materials, and thus a large generator of
waste. Thus, any effort to reduce the amount of waste
generated through source reduction efforts will reduce
the waste stream. Since the County generates its
waste, it can be effective in controlling its waste
generation.
Experience gained by the County in reducing its
own office waste and through procurement procedures
could then be shared with other businesses and
industries to help reduce waste from these sources as
well.
2. Hazards Created:
It is anticipated that no hazards would be
created through implementation of the above policies.
3. Ability to Accommodate Changing Political, Social and
Economic Conditions:
Since the policies are controlled by the County,
the policies could be changed to accommodate local
change.
4. Consequences of the Program on Waste Types:
The program would result in reduction of paper
wastes and less frequent disposal of durable goods.
Chapter 3 - Source Reduction 20
