r
Surface Water
First -storm surface water samples were obtained on January 10, 2005, but could not be collected
in the second semester due to insufficient rainfall. All concentrations of field and monitoring
parameters were below established concentration limits where the limits could be determined
with the exception of Total Organic Carbon at sample point S-4, which is down -gradient to the
landfill. Because the other concentrations were well within the concentration limits, we do not
believe this to be a release from the landfill.
Surface water samples were not obtained when attempted for the 2005-2006 storm season during
the fourth quarter. Water was present, but not flowing.
Unsaturated Zone
During the first and second semester, the lysimeters did not yield enough water for sampling,
indicating no detectable leaks from the liner in those areas. Unsaturated zone monitoring will
continue in accordance with the WDRs.
Unsaturated Zone Soil Pore Gas
The Methane concentration was zero in most wells. VOCs were reported in most samples
retrieved from wells and the soil gas trench this year. The number of VOCs reported per event
varied from 69 in the first quarter to 58 in the third quarter. The number and type of VOCs
reported does not indicate a trend.
Leachate
Results of leachate monitoring are consistent with past leachate monitoring events. The initial
samples of leachate from the Module 4 sump were collected on March 3, 2005. Five-year COCs
were also analyzed. Four different VOCs were reported. The highest VOC concentration
reported was 2-butanone. Of the dissolved metals: Manganese, Barium, and Iron concentrations
were the highest.
HISTORICAL TIME SERIES PLOTS AND STIFF DIAGRAMS
Historical Time Series Plots are presented in Appendix F. Note that constituents not detected are
plotted at a value of half their respective detection limits. Outliers were included in the plots as
directed by RWQCB staff.
Ci
u
North County RCSL 17 Public Works/Solid Waste
1 2nd Semester and Annual 2005 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin — January 24, 2006
