Shaw Environmental,Inc.
4005 Port Chicago Highway
Concord, CA 94520
Telephone: 925-288-2381
Fax: 925-288-0888
aw
June 7, 2010
Project 124601
Mr. W. Michael Carroll, PE
County of San Joaquin
Department of Public Works
1810 E. Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, California 95201
Re: Evaluation Monitoring Well G-2 at the North County Sanitary Landfill, San Joaquin
County, California
Dear Mr. Carroll:
The purpose of this letter is to report on Monitoring Well G-2 at the North County Sanitary
Landfill.
G-2 is an approximate 170-foot deep monitoring well that was installed in the third quarter
of 1987. The first monitoring event conducted on this well was on August 17, 1987, and
was monitored until third quarter 1996. G-2 has not been monitored since that time because
it has not been included in the Monitoring and Reporting Program associated with the Waste
Discharge Requirements for the site. The County has, however, continued to take depth-to-
groundwater measurements at this well.
G-2 is installed in the same water-bearing unit as the other monitoring wells on site. Water
levels have continued to be recorded at this well. As indicated by the Historical Summary of
Analytical Results (attached), the water quality at this well is consistent with the other
groundwater monitoring wells on site, and does not indicate impact by the landfill.
Assessment
Assessment of this well is based on three criteria:
I. Is the well in adequate condition to be sampled?
The depth to water at the last monitoring event (May 20, 2010) was 158.65 feet, which
indicates that there is sufficient water in this well for sampling.
Based on Shaw's investigation of the well, the well riser and surface seal appears to be
secure, the well is appropriately screened to sample groundwater, and it appears that this
well is in an adequate condition to be sampled.
C-11 NCLF G-2.dm
