4.5 SURROUNDING LAND AND GROUNDWATER USE
4.5.1 Land Use
Land use surrounding the landfill site is described in Section1.4.
4.5.2 Groundwater Use
Groundwater use on and surrounding the property is agricultural applications and domestic use
(Appendix E).
There are eight wells on the landfill property, including:
• The well serving landfill operations, located south of the landfill office building (Plate 2).
• A domestic well serving the rental property portion on the northeast corner of the property.
• An agricultural well also located at the rental property portion on the northeast corner of
the property.
• Five groundwater monitoring wells.
Thirty-eight wells were identified within one mile of the landfill site. Screen depths (depth to
bottom of screen) varied from 100 feet to 700 feet below ground surface. Seven of the wells
appear to be down gradient of the site (west-southwest). First encountered groundwater in the
wells varied between 100 feet and 168 feet below ground surface.
The California Department of Water Resources' (DWR) files were reviewed in 2002 and included
in the "Report of Waste Discharge Related to the Permitting and Installation of Composite Landfill
Liner System for Module 4 and Future Modules" Appendix A). The DWR files were reviewed
again in August 2004 (Kleinfelder) but no new information was obtained during that review.
4.6 POTENTIAL IMPAIRMENT CAUSED BY NCRC&SL
The groundwater beneath the NCRC&SL does not appear impacted at this time. Except for one
compound detected above trace concentrations at one well (G-4) in one monitoring event
(August 2002), groundwater impact has not been indicated at the NCRC&SL.
North County RC&SL Page 21 of 69 Public Works/Solid Waste
Joint Technical Document County of San Joaquin — February 10, 2010
