U <br />Once sufficient material is accumulated at the yard waste processing area, the material is ground <br />by a barrel grinder or similar equipment. Grinding occurs during the hours during which the <br />landfill gates are open to receive refuse. <br />After grinding, the material is passed through a trammel screen to separate the small particles <br />from the larger material. These two materials are removed within 72 hours from the NCRC&SL <br />and sent to markets. At this time, the sale of these materials is under the control of the yard <br />waste processing contractor. <br />The County will not add water or take other measures to enhance the biological activity <br />(composting) within the processed yard waste without LEA approval. <br />Additional equipment may be used as needed, and the equipment identified below may not be <br />used if not needed. <br />• Front end loader <br />• Wood grinder <br />• Trommel screen <br />• Transfer tractors/trailers — Transport material from site to markets <br />• Tractor or Bulldozer — Spread/consolidated material <br />8.3 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS <br />• Only qualified trained personnel work in the yard waste processing area. <br />• Safety equipment for Personnel working in the yard waste processing area include highly <br />visible safety vests, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and proper footwear. <br />• Mobile equipment will be equipped with an audible back up alarm and working lights. <br />North County RC&SL Page 65 of 69 Public Works/Solid Waste <br />Joint Technical Document County of San Joaquin — February 10, 2010 <br />
