' 3.0 WASTE CHARACTERISTICS <br /> ' 3.1 HISTORY OF LANDFILL SITE <br /> ' The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill has been in operation since the mid-to late-1950s <br /> as a refuse and bum disposal site. Burning continued at the site into the mid-1970s. A <br /> ' gravel pit was operated at the site before the landfill was developed. The site was <br /> expanded between 1959 and 1965 by approximately 30 acres to include the land <br /> ' currently being used for refuse disposal. The current landfill area is located on the <br /> south side of Interstate 580. <br /> The landfill is jointly owned by the County of San Joaquin and the City of Tracy. <br /> Waste Discharge Requirements were issued by the RWQCB in 1976 in accordance with <br /> ' Title 23 of the California Administrative Code,Subchapter 15, "Discharge of Wastes to <br /> Land". On-site operations are conducted in accordance with Waste Discharge <br /> ' Requirement Order No. 75-155, issued by the RWQCB and Solid Waste Facility Permit <br /> No. 39-AA-005, issued by the San Joaquin County Local Health District. <br /> The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill has a landfill service life estimated at 5.7 years acid <br /> a remaining refuse capacity of 479,000 tons (EMCON, 1988). <br /> 3.1.1 Description of Wastes <br /> The Class III landfill receives approximately 1,000 cubic yards of solid waste materials <br /> ' per day from the City of Tracy and its environs. The site was pennitted as a Class II-2 <br /> site. (Class II-2 sites were redesignated as Class III sites under Subchapter 15 <br /> ' regulations,which became effective in 1984). <br /> A definitive characterization of the waste stream has not been performed. Monthly <br /> totals of the quantity of wastes accepted at the landfill are recorded; however, no <br /> breakdown of the types of refuse is kept.
