L
11
n
r
n
4.2.2 Ground Water
The results of the organic analyses are summarized in Table 3. No volatile or
organochlorine pesticide/PCB compounds were detected in the deep or shallow wells.
A semivolatile organic compound, bis (2-ethy1hexyl) phthalate, was detected in MW -1
at a concentration of 19 ug/1. As discussed previously, this compound was also
detected in the laboratory blank sample at a concentration of 77 ug/l. No semivolatile
organic compounds were detected in the other wells.
The results of the metals analyses are summarized in Table 4. Of the 27 SWAT metals,
only 10 were detected at or above the analytical detection limit in the deep wells (MW -1,
MW -2, and MW -3). The highest concentrations were for those metals characteristic of
terrestrially derived ground water: calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. These
metals were detected at concentrations ranging from 4 to 160 milligrams per liter (mg/l).
The concentration of each of the remaining detected metals was less than 1 mg/l, with
the exception of boron at concentrations of 1.8 to 4.0 mg/l. For the shallow wells (MW -
4, MW -5, and SB -1), 11 of the metals were detected at or above the analytical detection
limit. Again, the highest concentrations were for calcium, magnesium, potassium, and
sodium, from 5.7 to 250 mg/l. The concentration of each of the remaining detected
metals was less than 1 mg/l, with the exception of boron at concentrations of 0.49 to
3.9 mg/l.
The results of the conventional water quality parameters are summarized in Table 5.
Total kjeldalnl nitrogen was not detected in any of the deep wells (MW -1, MW -2, MW -
3). The concentrations in these wells for alkalinity ranged from 180 to 300 mg/l;
chemical oxygen demand (COD) ranged from 15 to 28 mg/1; chloride ranged from 67 to
140 mg/1; electrical conductivity (EC) ranged from 900 to 1,600 umhos/cin; nitrate -
nitrogen ranged from 0.75 to 1.3 mg/l; phosphate ranged from less than 0.02 to 0.33
mg/l; sulfate ranged from 180 to 400 mg/l; total dissolved solids (TDS) ranged from
460 to 1,200 mg/1; and pH, measured in the field, was slightly basic (7.7 to 8.3).
The alkalinity in the shallow wells (MW -4, MW -5, SB -1) ranged from 170 to 500 mg/l;
COD ranged from 13 to 30 mg/l; chloride ranged from 47 to 390 mg/1; EC ranged from
620 to 2,600 umhos/cm; nitrate -nitrogen ranged from 0.93 to 1.4 mg/l; phosphate
STL 9390314 21E1Df A011 3SJI8
