1
The concentrations of conventional water quality parameters in the deep downgradient
well (MW -1) were similar to those for the deep upgradient wells (MW -2 and MW -3).
The concentrations were generally higher in MW -2 than in MW -3, and in several
instances, the concentrations in MW -2 exceeded those in MW -1.
The concentrations of conventional water quality parameters in the shallow
downgradient wells (MW -4 and MW -5) were generally similar to those in the shallow
upgradient well (SB -1). However, the concentrations of chloride, EC, sulfate, and
TDS in MW -4 were somewhat higher than the concentration in SB -1; chloride was 390
mg/1 as compared to 80 mg/l; EC was 2,600 umhos/cm as compared to 1,200
umhos/cm; sulfate was 700 mg/1 as compared to 53 mg/l; and TDS was 1,800 mg/1 as
compared to 630 mg/l.
In summary, the concentrations of organics, metals, and conventional water quality
parameters detected in the deep downgradient well (MW -1) were similar to those
detected in the deep upgradient wells (MW -2 and MW -3). Therefore, the landfill does
not appear to have impacted the ground -water quality of the deep regional aquifer.
No organics were detected in either the downgradient or upgradient shallow wells (MW -
4, MW -5, and SB -1). The concentrations of calcium, magnesium, chloride, EC,
sulfate, and TDS detected in the shallow downgradient well (MW -4) were greater than
two tunes the concentrations detected in the shallow upgradient well (SB -1). Although
these constituents are present in MW -4 in slightly elevated concentrations, they are not
considered significant and are probably representative of the natural variability in water
quality within the shallow perched aquifer. The concentrations of metals and
conventional water quality parameters detected in the other shallow downgradient well
(MW -5) were similar to those detected in the shallow upgradient well (SB -1).
4.3.2 Vadose Zone Soil Samples
Landfill impacts on the vadose zone soils are evaluated by comparing the chemical
characteristics of soil samples collected from upgradient and downgradient soil borings.
Shallow soil samples were collected during the drilling of MW -1, MW -2, MW -4, MW -
TL 9390314 24 1 M'6n
