If berms were constructed to prevent accidental overflows into the gravel pits, flood flows would
be confined to a relatively narrow corridor along the creek channel. However, flood flows at this
location have already been constrained and limited upstream, where Corral Hallow Creek crossed
over both the Califomia Aqueduct and the Delta -Mendota Canal in open -topped box culverts.
Mitigation
4.5-6 The project proponent should construct berms or take other measures, acceptable to the San
Joaquin County Flood Control Division, adequate to prevent a 100 -year 24-hour flood in Corral
Hallow Creek from accidentally overflowing into the pit.
An acceptable alternative to the construction of berms would be that the project applicant provide
an analysis of Corral Hollow Creek for the 1007year 24-hour storm event to determine the
likelihood of overtopping and diverting into the pit. Should overtopping prove to be a likely event,
the project applicant would then be required to submit to the reviewing agency an engineered
plan for prevention of said overtopping. Acceptable mitigations would include the construction
of berms or levees or the widening and deepening of the channel adjacent to the project site.
Implementation of these mitigations will reduce the potential impacts resulting from accidental
overflow of flood waters to a less -than -significant level.
C
0
ER -93-1 -73- (9-27-93)
