I
CORRAL HOLLOW SANITARY LANDFILL
FINAL CLOSURE PLAN - REVISED FEBRUARY, 1995
1.0 FINAL COVER
There are approximately 43 acres of landfill final cover to be
placed. Final cover will be comprised of 4 feet of soil. It will
consist of a 2 foot foundation layer (silty material), a 1 foot
clay barrier layer, and a 1 foot vegetative layer (topsoil
material). The foundation layer will be completed by County forces
by the time the site stops accepting waste. Final Cover will be
placed in accordance with the CQA program.
It is estimated that the foundation layer will be complete at the
time of closure. Therefore, approximately 138,746 cubic yards of
cover material are needed to apply two feet of final cover (clay
and vegetative layer) . The soil will be purchased and delivered to
the site.
Soil Requirements for Final Cover (Cubic Yards)
Layer Quantity
Clay = 69,373
Vegetative 69,373
Total = 138,746
Unit Costs for Placement
Vegetative layer cover -- 1.0 ft. thick. Assuming transport
from stockpile and placement at 138 c.y./hr., and using labor
costs at $23.58/hr plus scraper operation cost of $60.10/hr,
the following unit cost calculation applies:
Unit cost ($23.58/hr + $60.10/hr)/138 c.y./hr. $0.61/c.y.
Clay -- 1.0
ft. thick. The
transport from stockpile and
placement
unit cost will be
the same as for the vegetative
layer. However, the clay will
require a greater compactive
effort for
CQA compliance and
will require an additional unit
expense as
shown in the table
on the following page.
Cost to Import
Clay.
Total soil
required for clay
layer = 69,373 c.y.
Cost of clay
= $ 5.00/c.y.
(69,373 x
$5.00
$346,865
17
