1
t 4 FEASIBILITY STUDY
! The objective of the feasibility study is to evaluate the technical and economical feasibility
of remediation alternatives available for the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. EMCON
evaluated alternatives capable of remediating the groundwater impacted by VOCs and
integrated them to site specific factors such as, extent of impact to the groundwater, local
hydrogeology, implementability, effectiveness, and cost. The results of a feasibility study
conducted for the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill are presented in this section.
This feasibility study was prepared generally consistent with the requirements of the
National Contingency Plan for Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation,
and Liability Act (40 CFR 300.430), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
(RCRA), Subtitle D requirements (40 CFR 258.57). These documents were utilized
because Article 5 does not include detailed guidelines for feasibility studies.
■ 4.1 Alternatives Description
■ The following table summarizes the alternatives for remediating the impacted groundwater
at Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill and resulting action required for their implementation.
These alternatives are described in detail under respective section headings.
' Alternative Action
No action Continued monitoring of groundwater
Source Control Construct final cover cap for entire landfill
Groundwater Extraction and Treatment Extract and treat impacted groundwater from
MW-5 area and spray evaporate over site
Physical Barrier Construct a slurry wall downgradient of MW-5 area
4.1.1 No Action
1 This alternative does not involve any remedial action. Groundwater would continue to be
monitored to evaluate changes in water quality attributable to the landfill release. Since
available data suggest the nature and extent of the VOC release is relatively small
SAC1N:\PJO093M390031.9BG-94\sdg:I Rev.0,4/20/95
0939.003.19 4-1
