Once a sample is collected, it will be stored in a field ice chest. Each sample will be
catalogued on appropriate Chain -of -Custody documentation after it has been collected, and
the Chain -of -Custody records and other appropriate paperwork will accompany each
sample to the analytical laboratory. It is anticipated that samples will be provided to the
laboratory courier at the end of each sampling day, and the field sampler will be responsible
for the care and custody of the samples until they are shipped or otherwise delivered to the
laboratory custodian.
Samples from temporary wells and all blank samples will be analyzed for VOCs according to
United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) test method 8260B. Samples from
water level sounder. The depth to water will then be used to calculate the water surface
elevations in the wells by subtracting the depth -to -water from the estimated top -of -casing
elevation. To evaluate groundwater flow directions and hydraulic gradients beneath the
site, groundwater depths will be measured in all shallow, perched monitoring wells on the
same day.
Well purging will be accomplished by bailing with a new, disposable bailer attached to
Teflon® rope. Periodically, samples of purged water will be collected and monitored for
stabilization indicator parameters (pH, temperature, electric conductivity, and turbidity).
The well will be sampled after a minimum of three well casing volumes have been purged,
and the indicator parameters have stabilized to within 10 percent of the preceding three
measurements and show no discernible upward or downward trend.
As described elsewhere, water that is purged from each well will be temporarily contained
and stored in 55 -gallon drums, and then discharged to the ground surface in a manner that
does not cause erosion or runoff to other properties.
Laboratory analyses will be conducted by BC Laboratories, Inc., of Bakersfield, California, a
State of California ELAP-certified laboratory. BC Labs will provide the sample containers,
which will be stored in an area that is free from dust and exposure to organic chemicals. All
ground water samples will be poured from the bailer by inserting a disposable bottom -
emptying device to transfer the liquid from the bailer directly into the sample containers.
Trip blanks for each day of sampling will accompany sample containers from the laboratory,
through the field operations, and return to the laboratory as a QC check to determine if
contamination has been introduced from the sample containers or laboratory water. Field
blanks will be collected by pouring laboratory provided reagent -grade water directly into a
set of sample vials as a test of site-specific environmental conditions. Field blanks will be
collected at a frequency of one per day.
Once a sample is collected, it will be stored in a field ice chest.
