Thanks........Gino
From: Yekta, Gino
Sent: Monday, May 05, 2008 3:53 PM
To: 'Robert McClellon [EH]'; 'Natalia Subbotnikova [EH]'
Cc: Wochnick, Michael
Subject: Corral Hollow site visit on May 1, 2008
Hello Robert and Natalia: I visited Corral Hollow LF along with Ms. Natalia Subbotnikova on May 1,
2008. The purpose of my site visit to observe conditions noted during our last site visit as well as to
conduct landfill gas monitoring from the newly landfill gas probe GW-lA installed to replace GWL
The results of my observation are noted as follow:
Site Maintenance: Similar to last site visit, the entire landfill area was covered by overgrown dried
vegetation which had made it impossible to determine whether the cover was intact and functioning as it
should. The overgrown dried vegetation could also pose a fire hazard especially with summer
approaching. Since the site had previously experienced a surface fire which had damaged a few of the
extraction wells, CIWMB staff recommends that the landfill operator maintain the vegetation so that site
cover inspection could easily be conducted and also to prevent surface fires from taking place which
could cause a threat to public health and safety and the environment as well as damaging the landfill gas
control system.
Drainage Control: Abundant vegetation had grown in the perimeter drainage where the half-pipe
corrugated metal drainage was located. It was also unclear where this drainage would drain the runoff
into. Also, drainage on the southeast property boundary where grading had taken place did not appear to
function as intended. The operator should provide adequate drainage of runoff for the entire site.
Furthermore, depressions were noted across from the main entrance of the site. Please assure the
operator will correct such depressions so to prevent ponding of runoff.
GW3: Please have the operator to extend each individual probe heights within this monitoring well to
allow for ease of monitoring. GW1A: Operator should assure this monitoring well is capped and
locked.
Please call (916-341-6354) or e-mail me if you have any questions. Thanks.............Gino
5/21/2008
