Ms.Natalia Subbotnikova of the San Joaquin County Local Enforcement
CHERYL PEACE
CPEACE@CIWMB.CA.GOV Agency(LEA) accompanied CIWMB staff during the entire site visit.
(916)341-6010
The following describes observations noted by CIWMB staff during this site visit:
GARY PETERSEN 1. Site Maintenance: The entire landfill area was covered by overgrown vegetation which had
GPETERSEN@CIWMB.CA.GOV made it impossible to determine whether the cover was intact and functioning as it should.
(916)341-6035 The overgrown vegetation could also pose a fire hazard especially with summer
approaching. It also appeared that a fire had started very close to the flare station and that it
had spread to other areas and had damaged a few of the extraction wells. Based on
discussion with LEA staff, this fire had started sometime in July 2007 and was contained
immediately before damaging a few of the wellheads and forcing flare system shutdown.
CIWMB staff recommends that the landfill operator maintain the vegetation so that site
cover inspection could easily be conducted and also to prevent surface fires from taking
place which could cause a threat to public health and safety and the environment.
No
N:
■■■
INTEGRATED
WASTE
MANAGEMENT
BOARD
Overgrown vegetation on the cover
ORIGINAL PRINTED ON loo%POST-CONSUMER CONTENT.PROCESSED CHLORINE FREE PAPER
