GROUNDWATER GRADIENT AND VELOCITY
Data collected on August 28, 1993 indicates the groundwater beneath
the landfill site flows easterly toward the Stockton pumping
depression.
The average flow velocity was calculated using Darcy's Law:
Velocity = Conductivity x Hydraulic Gradient
Porosity (per cent)
The groundwater gradient was determined from the ground water
contour map (see enclosed plat) using water levels obtained in
August 1993 . The calculated gradient equal 0. 00736 feet/feet.
Porosity was estimated at 30 per cent based on a published range
data (Freeze and Cherry) . The range of hydraulic conductivity for
the shallow water-bearing zone was determined to be between 0. 00094
cm/sec to 0. 015 cm/sec. Using the above data and equation, it was
determined that the ground water flow velocity ranged between to
23 .8 to 380. 8 feet per year.
,.Q 4ESSlpygf
F Uk&
lon
No. 26987
EXP 3-3h97
OF OR
