FORWARD LANDFILL 9999 S. Austin Road
Manteca, CA 95336
(209) 982-4298, Fax(209) 982-1009
RWQCB was notified of the non-statistical indication of a release at well MW-9A, which
has been attributed to the recent placement of a final cover system on the landfill and
associated landfill gas migration. The results of the retest samples collected from
background well MW-6A indicate that no VOCs were detected and the concentration of
chloroform in the primary sample was a false positive.
The results of water quality analyses completed for surface-water monitoring stations are
generally consistent with previous results. During the current monitoring period, no CL
were exceeded, and with the exception of turbidity in all three surface-water samples, no
statistically significant increasing trends were noted. Since turbidity exhibits a
statistically significant increasing trend at background surface water stations SW-1 and
SW-2, the increasing trend in turbidity at S -3 is unlikely to be indicative of an impact
from the facility.
The results of the 5-year constituents of cone (COC) sampling conducted during the
monitoring period indicates that excluding the metals, the only COC detected was bis(2-
ethylhexyl)phthalate, a confirmed laboratory contaminant, in all groundwater, leachate,
and surface water samples. In addition, only one maximum contaminant level (MCL)
exceedance, for arsenic, was identified in groundwater monitoring well MW-6A.
However, considering the fact that well MW-6A is a background well and is located
several hundred feet from the site, the MCL exceedance does not appear to be related to a
release from the landfill.
The field screening results from soil-pore gas monitoring probes indicates that no
methane was measured in soil-pore gas monitoring probes during the monitoring period.
I certify under penalty of law, that I have personally examined and am familiar with the
information submitted in this document and all attachments, and that based on my inquiry
of those individuals immediately responsible for obtaining this information, I believe that
the information is true, accurate, and complete. I am aware that there are significant
penalties for submitting false information, including the possibility of fine and
imprisonment.
If you have any questions regarding this report, please call me at(209) 982-4298.
Sincerely,
*7
Don Litchfiel
Environmental Manager
Attachment
