vx '
..ti
i
Lodi Asks Out
of Dump Deal
LODi—The Board of Supervi-
sors will be asked Tuesday to
assume complete responsibility
for operation of the Harney
Lane sanitary landfill.
The Lodi City Council, in a
special meeting Friday, unami-
mously approved turning over
all dump operations—and
costs—to the county.
"It makes sense for the city
to get out of the (dump) busi-
ness," Vice Mayor R i c h a r d
Hughes said, contending waste
disposal is a countywide prob-
lem.
roblem.
Lodi councilmen contend that
the joint city-county operation
at the landfill 12 miles east of
Lodi results in double taxation
on Lodi citizens.
Hughes will propose to the
supervisors that the city turn
over to the county the balance
of the landfill's capacity—the
city originally contributed .90
acres, the county 15-in return
for dumping privileges for the
scavenger firm which collects
refuse from city residents.
