vx ' <br /> ..ti <br /> i <br /> Lodi Asks Out <br /> of Dump Deal <br /> LODi—The Board of Supervi- <br /> sors will be asked Tuesday to <br /> assume complete responsibility <br /> for operation of the Harney <br /> Lane sanitary landfill. <br /> The Lodi City Council, in a <br /> special meeting Friday, unami- <br /> mously approved turning over <br /> all dump operations—and <br /> costs—to the county. <br /> "It makes sense for the city <br /> to get out of the (dump) busi- <br /> ness," Vice Mayor R i c h a r d <br /> Hughes said, contending waste <br /> disposal is a countywide prob- <br /> lem. <br /> roblem. <br /> Lodi councilmen contend that <br /> the joint city-county operation <br /> at the landfill 12 miles east of <br /> Lodi results in double taxation <br /> on Lodi citizens. <br /> Hughes will propose to the <br /> supervisors that the city turn <br /> over to the county the balance <br /> of the landfill's capacity—the <br /> city originally contributed .90 <br /> acres, the county 15-in return <br /> for dumping privileges for the <br /> scavenger firm which collects <br /> refuse from city residents. <br />
