Materials which have not been properly placed and <br /> compacted according to these specifications shall be <br /> removed or reworked as necessary, at the Contractor's <br /> expense. <br /> J. The Contractor shall take all measures necessary to <br /> prevent surface cracking/desiccation of the clay <br /> barrier layer. Areas exhibiting surface <br /> cracking/dessication, as determined by the Engineer, <br /> shall be reworked and moisture conditioned at the <br /> Contractor's expense. <br /> K. The clay barrier layer shall be maintained according to <br /> these specifications for 15 working days prior to <br /> placing the vegetative layer. <br /> Equipment or truck traffic, other than to maintain the <br /> clay barrier layer as directed by the Engineer, shall <br /> not be permitted on the clay barrier layer. <br /> L. Test holes left from samples taken in the clay barrier <br /> layer shall be backfilled with 100 percent imported <br /> Ione clay. Backfill material and compaction <br /> requirements shall be in accordance with these <br /> specifications. <br /> Quantities of clay barrier layer will be measured by the cubic <br /> yard. The quantity will be calculated on the basis of the <br /> dimensions shown on the plans, adjusted by the amount of any <br /> change ordered by the Engineer. No allowance will be made for <br /> clay barrier layer placed outside said dimensions unless <br /> otherwise ordered by the Engineer. <br /> The contract unit price paid per cubic yard for clay barrier <br /> layer shall include full compensation for furnishing all labor, <br /> materials, tools, equipment and incidentals and for doing all <br /> work involved in clay barrier layer, complete in place, as shown <br /> on the plans, as specified in the Standard Specifications and <br /> these special provisions, and as directed by the Engineer. <br /> Payment for backfilling test holes in the clay barrier layer with <br /> 100 Percent imported lone clay will be on a force account basis. <br /> d:\wp51\spec\harney2 <br />
