In -this letter, you state that, ffLow level methane gas
migration to the labor camp structures has occurred, as indicated
. by guarterly monitoring by Public Works." This statement Is not
correct. It has not been determined that the to levels found in
the labor camp structures are due to methane migrating from the
landfill . In fact, we believe that the lov levels are due to
operational and natural causes and not the landfill.
The San Joaquin County Housing Authority staff frequently cleans
and paints the structures when they are not occupied. in additiop,
the tenants use gas stoves and use many different cleaners to
maintain the structures while they live at the labor camp. it has
been documented duringr previous monitoring events that structures
with strong paint andlor cleaner odar exhibited higher levels on
the Gas-Tech Landfill monitor than structures that did not have the
.strong odor. in fact,, when the instrument probe was placed at the
top of an open Pine-Sol bottle, it immediately indicated the
maximum ppm level (5oo) .
It is known that the Gas-Tech Landfill Monitor vill show readings
for gases other than methane. The highest levels were encountered
when the paint andlor cleanser adoz was strong. Therefore, it
