Attachment A
SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PROCEDURES
Introduction
The sampling and analysis procedures for the monitoring programs at the
San Joaquin County sanitary landfills are contained in this appendix. The
procedures provide for consistent and reproducible sampling methods;
proper application of analytical methods; accurate and precise analytical
results; and finally, these procedures provide guidelines so that the overall
objectives of the monitoring program are achieved.
The following documents were used as guidelines for the development of
these procedures:
• Procedures Manual for Ground-water Monitoring at Solid
Waste Disposal Facilities, U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA)-530/SW-611, August 1977
• RCRA Ground-water Monitoring Technical Enforcement
Guidance Document, OSWER 9950.1, September 1986
• Test Methods for Evaluating Solid Waste: Physi-
cal/Chemical Methods, EPA SW-846, 3rd edition, Novem-
ber 1986
• Methods for Organic Chemical Analysis of Municipal and
Industrial Wastewater, EPA-600/4-82-057, July 1982
• Methods for Chemical Analysis of Water and Wastes,
EPA-600/4-79-020, revised March 1983
Ground-water Elevation Survey
' Before beginning the sampling, monitoring wells at the site were measured
for static water levels during a single water-level survey. Water levels were
converted to elevations relative to mean sea level and displayed on a
PJ
9\939\9390111c A-1 Rev. 0 September 9, 1992
