In addition,
combustible gas was not detected in any foundation vents, indicating that LFG is not migrating to the
migrant housing structures(Table 2). However, on May 4, 2007, staff of the Environmental Health
Department found combustible gas in excess of 5%at monitoring probe G A-intermediate. The
cause of this exceedence was the gradual settlement of the landfill and the landfill gas pipe
supported on the landfill surface such that the pipe became obstructed with landfill gas condensate.
As a result of this detection,we directed SCS Engineers to monitor the foundation vents of adjacent
structures weekly for combustible gas to verify safe conditions. Combustible gas was not detected
at any structure, indicating that human health and safety was not threatened. We also directed SCS
to correct immediately the slope of the pipes. This effort was successful, bringing the methane
content at M A-intermediate to below regulatory limits by June 21,which was confirmed and
reported to Environmental Health Department on June 28, 2007.
If you have any questions, please contact me at extension 8-8504.
Sincerely,
W.
