PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL
Well depths are approximate. The actual well depth shall be determined in the
field, based on where the water deep level is encountered.
3.02 DRILLING
A. The Contractor shall decontaminate the drilling rig and all drilling equipment
before drilling and monitoring well installation in the presence.of the
Engineer. The Contractor shall clear the boring location of all brush and
minor obstructions.
B. If the borehole was over-drilled, the bottom of the hole shall be filled with
sand to raise the bottom of the hole.
3.03 WELL INSTALLATION
A. Well installation shall be in the presence of San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Inspector. Contractor shall coordinate all work with
EHD inspections. Well construction means any material placed in the
borehole.
B. The Contractor shall remove soil cuttings prior to construction of the well.
The Contractor shall measure the total depth of the completed borehole
using a weighted sounding line or other method as agreed with the
Contractor. Contractor shall measure the borehole depth in the presence of
the EHD inspector. If heaving or cave-ins have taken place, the Contractor
shall clean out or re-drill the borehole before well installation.
C. The Contractor shall ask for inspection by the Engineer of the casing,
screen, and any other well construction materials prior to installation. The
well screens, bentonite seals and neat cement seals shall be installed in
accordance with the following sequence:
1. The Contractor shall connect and lower the well casing assembly to
the depth directed by the Engineer.
2. If the well casing assembly is dropped, lowered abruptly, or for any
other reason suspected of being damaged during placement, the
well casing assembly shall be removed from the borehole and
inspected. The need to inspect the casing will be at the sole
judgment of the Engineer. If the well casing assembly rises after
being placed in the borehole due to heaving formation material, the
Contractor shall not place any drilling equipment (drill pipe,
Construction Specifications San Joaquin County
Groundwater Monitoring Wells Page 6 of 9 Public Works Dept
Revised 11-23-09 Solid Waste Division
