MW-5 was installed between the sewage treatment ponds of the migrant labor camp and the
"Secondary Site" portion of the site. The purpose of this well is to determine if the treatment
ponds were contributing constituents to groundwater.
MW-6
Concentrations of all the parameters analyzed were within established concentration limits this
semester except for Turbidity (Table 1).
No VOCs were detected in MW-6 during the first quarter 2012 sampling event.
MW-6 was installed upgradient of the treatment ponds to serve as a background well for the site,
especially to address RWQCB staff concerns regarding increased alkalinity due to landfill gas.
Evaluation of Impact to Groundwater by Wastewater Treatment Ponds
A review of the general chemical constituents indicates that the treatment ponds appear to act as
a source of constituents in groundwater. In general, several constituents are lower in background
well MW-6, then rise in well MW-5, and then fall in well MW4. This is illustrated below:
Monitoring Wells
Constituent MW-6 MW-5 MW-4
(Newly installed (Newly installed (downgradient)
upgradient) South of ponds
North of MW-4)
EC (us/cm) 322.2 890.3 694.3
Calcium (mg/L) 21 83 52
Magnesium (mg/L) 9.9 46 28
Alkalinity (as CaCO3, 120 390 150
mg/L)
Hardness (as CaCO3, 93 400 240
mg/L)
Surface Water
Surface water samples were not collected during this semester due to lack of flowing water during
this winter. Surface water samples were last collected on January 31, 2011. Samples are taken
if sufficient water is flowing at sampling points during the wet season. The dry climate at this site
makes collection of surface water difficult. All concentrations of field parameters and
constituents of concern were below established concentration limits where the limits could be
determined with the exception of Nitrate in SWA and Sulfate in SW-2, which slightly exceeded
concentration limits.
Hamey Lane Sanitary Landfill 8 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
1 st Semester 2012 Groundwater Monitoring Report County of San Joaquin—July 31,2012
