groundwater. MW-6 was installed upgradient of the treatment ponds. A review ew of the general
chemical constituents on Table 1 indicate that the treatment ponds appear to act as source of
constituents to groundwater. In general, several constituents are lower in background well MW-6,
then rise in well MW-5, and then fall in well MW-4A.
r
Monitoring Wells
Constituent MW-6 MW-5 MW-4A
(Newly installed (Newly installed (downgradient)
upgradient) South of ponds
North of MW-4)
EC (us/cm) 291.5 931.6 573.4
Calcium (mg/L) 21 89 14
Magnesium (mg/L) 11 50 8.8
Alkalinity 92 410 14
(as CaCO3, mg/L) 0
Hardness 95 430 72
(as CaCO3, mg/L)
MW-6:
MW-6 was installed upgradient of all landfill portions of the site to determine background alkalinity
levels. A review of the alkalinity levels indicates that with the exception of well MW-5 the other
wells generally fall within the same range as MW-6 and MW-1 the background wells (Table 1).
No general water quality parameter concentration limits where limits could be determined were
exceeded in MW-6 during the first or second semester 2013 sampling events.
No VOCs were observed in MW-6 during the first or second semester 2013 sampling events.
Surface Water
As noted in the cover letter of the First Semester report, Surface water samples are no longer
taken at this site. CCR Title 27 Section 20415 (c) "Surface Water Monitoring Systems"
paragraph (1) "General' requires that "The discharger shall establish a surface water monitoring
system to monitor each surface water body that could be affected by a release from the Unit.".
The physical configuration of the landfill, retention pond, and the "surface water" (drainage ditch
south of the retention pond) makes reaching the drainage ditch by sheet flow from the landfill
impossible.
Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill 13 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
2nd Semester and Annual 2013 Groundwater Monitoring Report County of San Joaquin—January 31,2014
