The Cove Contractors <br />Facility is an unregulated landfill that stopped taking waste in 1982. The Discharger is in the process of <br />revising the Closure Plan for Regional Board review. A Revised Closure Plan is due to the Regional <br />Board by 16 January 2006. The Cove Contractors Facility shall be closed in accordance with Title 27 <br />California Code of Regulations, Division 2. <br />During our inspection we discussed whether the gas probes had ever been monitored for volatile organic <br />compounds (VOCs). Regional Board staff are concerned about the possible presence of VOCs in gas <br />based on the levels of methane detected at the Facility. The Discharger intends on performing additional <br />groundwater monitoring at the site to further characterize groundwater. In addition to the groundwater <br />monitoring, the gas probes shall be sampled and analyzed for VOCs.
