The compost is kept at a moisture <br /> content of 45% and reaches a maximum temperature of about 145 degrees. Each <br /> composting operation is tracked by frequent chemical analyses and is recorded on a <br /> computer. <br /> Hours ou s of Operation: <br /> The hours of operation for the composting operation is the same for the transfer station. <br /> Fire Control Measures: <br /> The transfer station is served by a water system and fire lines in the event of a fire at the <br /> station. Although the temperatures in the compost reach 145 degrees, the high moisture <br /> content of the material make a fire in the compost unlikely. <br /> Vector Control Measures: <br /> Flies and other insects which inhabit the compost at the transfer station are mitigated by <br /> the use of a spray pesticide applied by a service extermination company.
