File No. 20-3668-01 K L E I N F E L D E R
January 7, 1993
i
SIBUNKAGE POTS L
In an effort to assist you in determining earthwork quantities, we are providing estimates of
shrinkage potential for the soils encountered in our investigation. For the areas with planted
agricultural crops, the upper 12 inches of surface soil, which has been repeatedly disced, may
undergo as much as 30-40 percent shrinkage upon compaction. The surface soils in pasture
fields are not as loose, and therefore shrinkage may be more on the order of 10-20 percent.
The soils beneath the surface soils vary considerably and thus so will the amount of shrinkage
that can be expected. However, for estimating purposes, based upon our experience we
recommend that an average shrinkage factor of approximately 15 to 20 percent be used.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES
The review of plans and specifications, field observations, and testing by Kleinfelder, Inc. are
an integral part of the conclusions and recommendations made in this report. If Kleinfelder,
Inc. is not retained for these services, the client agrees to assume Kleinfelder, Inc.'s
responsibility for any potential claims that may arise during construction. The required tests,
observations, and consultation by Kleinfelder, Inc. during construction includes, but is not
necessarily limited to:
• Continuous observation and testing during site preparation and grading and placement
of Engineered Fill
• Obse rvation of foundation excavations prior to placement of reinforcing steel
• Consultation as required during construction
The above listed testing and observations would be additional services provided by our firm.
The costs for these services are not included in our current fee arrangements.
LIMITATIONS
1. The conclusions and recommendations of this report are for design purposes
for the Lovelace Road Transfer Station facility office building addition project
as described in the text of this report. The conclusions and recommendations
in this report are invalid if.
a. The assumed design loads change
b. The report is used for adjacent or other property
C. The ADDITIONAL SERVICES section of this report is not
followed
F-12 Page 9 of 11
Copyright 1993 Kleinfelder, Inc.
