Densification is the phenomenon in which vibration, such as seismic ground shaking,
causes dry, loose, clean sand to densify or compact, which could cause settlement of
structures or cause voids under slabs and pavements. In discussions with IQeinfelder,
Inc., they state that this phenomenon has not been observed in the Central Valley,
where ground shaking is less intense than in areas closer to the epicenters of
rearthquakes.
Significance: Not Significant.
Mitigation: Not required.
8-3
