0 APPENDIX 'I
Additional Training: Onsite has developed a training program designed to ensure the
safety of all employees and regulatory compliance of all operations. This program
includes the following training:
• Universal Waste Rule Training
• Hazard Communication Standards
• Material Safety Data Sheets
• Personal Protective Equipment
• Health & Safety/Contingency Plan Review
• Ergonomics Awareness, Back Safety & Heat Stress
• Forklift Safety
• Hand & Power Tool Safety
• Lead Awareness
• Portable Fire Extinguishers
• Emergency and Safety Procedures
Initial training is provided to all employees at the beginning of their employment. Initial
training is done in a classroom setting with ample opportunity for employees to ask
questions. Monthly safety meetings are held in which different pertinent safety topics are
addressed. In addition, Onsite maintains an online training program, whereby all
employees are given access to specific training topics. These training programs are
utilized to supplement classroom training and include testing and certification upon
completion of each program.
Safety Precautions
The contracted Recycler's personnel assist County supervisors and staff in the proper
identification of all appliances containing materials requiring special handling. Only
qualified trained personnel are permitted to work in the Appliance Processing Area. All
personnel working in the Appliance Processing Area are required to wear highly visible
safety vests, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and proper footwear. Appliance processing
is only performed at times when the compactor is not in operation. In addition, all mobile
equipment is equipped with an audible back up alarm and working lights.
It is our goal to minimize accidents through appropriate training, use of personal
protective equipment and proper operating procedures. Onsite's corrective action process
is implemented upon an accident or incident or upon an employee report of an unsafe
condition in the Appliance Processing Area. When any of these conditions occur, Onsite
conducts an investigation as to whether the incident or condition can be corrected by a
change in procedure or policy. When this is the case, a corrective action plan is written
and implemented and communicated to the Materials Recovery Facility Supervisor. This
includes communication of any policy/procedural changes to employees and any
additional training necessary. When accidents do occur, the appropriate supervisor
prepares an accident report which is forwarded to the Director of Operations for review.
The Director of Operations reviews each accident to determine if changes in operating
procedures or personal protective equipment could be implemented to prevent a
reoccurrence of the same type of incident.
