IV CONSTRUCTION RELATED IMPACTS
Construction activities would include varous site preparation acti-
vities and the erection of new facilities . The environmental impacts
of these activities would be typical of those normally associated
with medium to heavy construction in an industrial area and are
expected to be temporary in nature, of relatively short-term, and
for the most part, detectable only in close proximity of the
construction zone.
Noise
Construction of the proposed facilities would include the use of
mechanized construction equipment having the potential to slightly
elevate ambient noise levels on and adjacent to the construction
sites.
Air Quality
Potential adverse air quality impacts would stem from three sources :
(1) grading and compaction work associated with site preparation;
(2) import of fill material, construction materials and the trans-
port of construction workers; and (3) slight increase in study area
congestion occasioned by equipment and materials movement.
Energy
Construction of facilities would require the direct expenditure of
human and mechanical energy. Portions of this requirement would be
met by the consumption of fossil-derived fuels which are irreplace-
able and in limited supply. Additionally, the manufacture and trans-
port of building supplies involve the expenditure of energy, much of
which is met by the consumption of fossil fuels . Finally, import
of fill material would, for the most part, be accomplished by use of
fossil fuel consuming transport vehicles.
-
39 -
