L FACH= OVERVIEW
A. ®DU ON
This Report of Composting Site Information describes the design and operation of the
Composting Facility at the Tracy Materials Recovery & Transfer Facility which will be owned
and operated by Tracy Material Recovery & Solid Waste Transfer, Inc., 60 E. 11th Street,
Tracy, CA 95376.
The facility will serve the City of Tracy and the unincorporated southern San Joaquin County
area. For the purposes of this report, this service area is defined as the Tracy Planning Area.
Figure 1 in Appendix A shows the facility location relative to the City of Tracy and identifies
the boundaries of the Tracy Planning Area.
The portion of the Tracy Materials Recovery & Transfer Facility that will be used for the yard
and wood waste composting operations is defined as the Composting Facility. The following
is a brief description of the daily operation cycle at the Composting Facility:
Receiving - Green material, wood wastes and other organic materials, such as animal manure,
enter the MRF/Transfer Station and Composting Facility site through the gatehouse and scale.
Materials are evaluated for acceptability. Pertinent data as to type of material, source, weight
and vehicle are recorded. Unacceptable materials are rejected.
Unloading -Acceptable materials are unloaded in a designated area and segregated by type such
as yard waste, wood waste, animal manure and salvageable lumber. Sorters check the loads for
unacceptable material and contaminants.
Size-Reduction and Mixing - Materials are processed through a tub grinder where they are
shredded and ground. Composting mixes are prepared in one process by alternating loads of
various feedstocks into the grinder.
Screening - Ground materials are screened into various sizes depending on the product to be
produced. Contaminants are removed.
Wood Products - Various products such as mulch, landscape chips, and co-generation fuel are
stored or shipped off-site.
L:1PR0JECr/39711.W1RC14.TCY December 15, 1993
