A5 and Tables B1 through B4 respectively. Estimates of the total quantity of waste generated
in the TPA by waste type are in Attachment A as Table Cl.
WASTE DIVERSION
One of the primary functions of the MRF is the diversion of recyclable materials away from
landfill disposal. The following Table B-4 shows the projected diversion amounts for the years
1995, 2000 and 2005.
Diversion goals are expected to be met by hand sorting on the tipping floor, mechanical sorting
of selected loads and composting. Sincere loads must be dumped onto the floor from
collection trucks in order to screen loads prior to loading in transfer trucks, hand sorting for
cardboard and wood waste could be easily done. Actual sorting (mechanical and/or by hand)
of incoming refuse will probably only be done on the commercial/industrial portion which has
the highest concentration of uncontaminated recyclable commodities. Since the equipment and
operation for sorting commercial/industrial waste will be in place, the more uncontaminated
residential waste stream may also be sorted. Residential yard waste will be source separated
and/or separated at the MRF and composted in a separate area of the facility.
L:\PR0JECM9AMRF\RS1-1.TCY EBA WASrECHNOLOGIES
DRAFT B-8 December 14,1993
