Box 32126
San Jose, CA 95152
PROJECT: Bowman Road La er Ranch
French Camp, California
SUBJECT: Soil and Groundwater Investigations of the On-Site Manure Pond.
INTRODUCTION
Quality Control Inspection, Inc. has been retained by Olivera Foods to investigate the soil and
groundwater under the larger of two manure ponds at the Bowman Road Layer Ranch Facility.
This study was conducted for two reasons. First, to determine if the on-site manure ponds are in
compliance with State and County environmental regulations and secondly, to assess potential
adverse impact from the ponds. The environmental regulations applicable to the subject ranch
are clay content of the underlying soil material, water table depth and groundwater quality.
It is our understanding the ponds were built in the early 1980s under authorization from the State
Regional Water Quality Control Board. The surrounding land use consists of predominately
agricultural production with extremely low density housing to the north, south and west. To the
east, is a low density residential subdivision with small scale agricultural and horticultural
production. The San Joaquin River is one-half mile to the west.
As the attached plot map illustrates, the subject layer ranch consists of fourteen layer houses
with the potential of holding a total of 600,000 layers. The two ponds are oriented in between
six houses to the north and eight houses to the south. Each house has mechanical scrapers which
deposit the manure at the end of each house for eventual flush into the ponds.
1
Our reports and letters are submitted as the confidential property of our clients for their exclusive use.Any publication or reproduction of statements, conclusions or extracts from or
regarding our reports or letters Is reserved, contingent upon the written authorization of Quallty Control Inspection,Inc.
