TODAY,
3/28/06,OWNER WAS SPREADING CHICKEN MANURE ON PROPERTY WHEN IT WAS TOO WET TO DISK. SMELL IS AWFUL.
ACT I V I T Y SUMMARY
Findings
GIRARDI 4/5/2006-Received complaint that owner is spreading chicken manure and not discing in,and the smell is awful.
Performed a site visit. Spoke with John DenDulk via cell phone(652-2275). They have been dumping into field on
property in front of houses because the road to pond is too muddy to access. The manure from the chicken houses is
dumped on the property in front of the chicken houses on a daily basis, except for Wed.and Sat. The road to the pond
was muddy. I walked the field and observed manure present with areas with very wet conditions. Manure appeared to
be about 6 inches thick at some spots. Observed equipment used to dispense of manure on-site. See attached photos.
Will return for follow-up tomorrow or Friday with Mr.DenDulk and the owner,Mr. Olivera.
Drove to adjacent area, east of property(downwind). Strong odors were detected at corner of Fedora and Lockhart.
No odors detected at complainant's property after site visit.
Findings
GIRARDI 4/7/2006-Follow up inspection with Robert McClellon, Supervising RENS. Met Ed Olivera and John DenDulk. They
agreed to discontinue spreading manure into the field and will gravel the road around pond to provide better access.
Observed workers discing in the manure that had been dumped on field previously.Today's manure was dumped into
pond,(road conditions improved)according to Ed Olivera.
Other alternatives for storing semi-dry manure(from belt operation)were also discussed. Mr.Olivera was proposing to
dry pad the manure in one of the ponds located on site(after the pond had dried up).Robert McClellon explained that
this method would require an impervious foundation with tarp covering. Mr.McClellon also explained to Mr.Olivera
that a manure management plan would have to be submitted for review and approval prior to beginning such an
operation.
Findings
GIRARDI 4/8/2006-Faxed copy of Manure Management Plan guidance document and check list to facility.
