S and R has three older
environmentally controlled houses that generate about five yards of manure daily
with a moisture content of about 80 percent during the hottest time of year and
about 30 percent during the coolest time of the year. S and R also have two newer
totally environmentally controlled houses that generate about ten yards of manure
daily. The moisture content in these houses may range from 50 percent in the
hottest time of the year to 30 percent in the coolest time of the year.
In the spring of the year we spread manure on neighbor's fields and
usually have it disked in within 24 hours. There may be times when this time
period cannot be met i.e. equipment breakdowns or unexpected rain. When this
happens we will stop to spread manure until the equipment is repaired. Once the
equipment is repaired we will continue the spreading process. Refer to site map
"B"to see the fields where we spread and disk the manure. This manure is used
for fertilizing the ground before the corn is planted. We apply the manure in
agronomic rates to benefit the growth of corn.
During the summer months we dry bed the manure. We disk and rotor till
the manure on a daily basis to dry the manure and eliminate as much odor as we
can. The dry bed area is approximately 100 feet by 300 feet. See site map "C ".
Green Belt Carriers is the company that comes and picks up the manure once we
have dried it. They come and pick up the manure through out the summer and into
the fall of the year. At the end of house number four we have a wash out for the
manure handling equipment, this is cleaned out once a week and put on top of the
dry bed to be dried. See site map C.
During the winter months we try to dry the manure as best as possible
given the weather conditions. We stock pile the rest until the spring when we can
spread the manure on the fields. The manure pad is slopped and we pump excess
i lo
