<br /> The Redding series consists of moderately well
<br /> drained soils on high terraces. These soils are
<br /> moderately deep to a hardpan. They formed in alluvium
<br /> derived from mixed rock sources. Slope ranges from 0
<br /> to 30 percent.
<br /> Soils of the Redding series are fine, mixed, thermic
<br /> Abruptic Ourixeralfs.
<br /> Typical pedon of Redding gravelly loam, 2 to 8
<br /> percent slopes; 2,175 feet north and 1,900 feet east of
<br /> the southwest corner of sec. 34, T. 2 N., R. 9 E.,
<br /> Farmington quadrangle:
<br /> A-0 to 7 inches; strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) gravelly

<br /> loam; dominantly reddish brown (5YR 413) moist but
<br /> pale brown (10YR 613) and dark brown (10YR 4/3)

<br /> 2Bt-16 to 22 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) clay,
<br /> reddish brown (5YR 414) moist; strong medium
<br /> subangular blocky structure; extremely hard,very
<br /> k firm, sticky and plastic; few very fine roots; common
<br /> ., very fine tubular pores; common moderately thick
<br /> - clay films on faces of peds and lining pores; 10
<br /> percent gravel; strongly acid: abrupt smooth
<br /> boundary.
<br /> 3Bgm-22 to 60 inches; reddish yellow (5YR 6/6) and
<br /> yellowish red (5YR Sib) duripan; massive;
<br /> moderately cemented to strongly cemented with iron
<br /> and silica; 75 percent gravel and 5 percent cobbles.
<br /> Depth to the du6pan is 20 to 40 inches. Reaction is
<br /> strongly acid to slightly acid.
<br /> The A horizon has color of 5YR 516, 6/3, or 6/4 or
<br /> 7.5YR 5/4, 516, 6/4, or 6/6.When moist, it has color of
<br /> SYR 3/6, 4/2, 4/3, or 4/4 or 7.5YR 4/4. It is loam,.
<br /> gravelly sandy loam, gravelly loam, or cobbly loam.The
<br /> content of clay is 10 to 30 percent.The content of
<br /> gravel is 5 to 30 percent.The content of cobbles is 0 to
<br /> 20 percent.
<br /> The 2Bt horizon has color of 2.5YR 4/6; 5YR 514,
<br /> 516, 5/8, or 6/6; or 7.5YR 5/4 or 6/4. When moist, it has
<br /> color of 2.5YR 3/6; 5YR 4/3, 4/4, or 4/6; or 7.5YR 414 or
<br /> 4/2. It is clay loam, clay, gravelly clay loam, or gravelly
<br /> clay. The content of gravel is 0 to 35 percent. The
<br /> content of cobbles is 0 to 5 percent. The content of clay
<br /> is 35 to 60 percent.
<br /> The 3Bgm horizon has color of 5YR 616; 7.5YR 616,
<br /> 7/4, or 7/6; or 10YR 5/3. When moist, it has color-of-
<br /> 5YR 4/6, 5/4, or 516; 7.5YR 4/4 or 5/4; or t 0YR 413.
<br /> The Redding soils in the Corning-Redding complex, 2
<br /> to 8 percent slopes, and the Corning-Redding complex,
<br /> 8 to 15 percent slopes, are outside the range of the
<br /> series because they have 0 to 5 percent gravel or
<br /> cobbles in the 2Bt and 38gm horizons. This difference,
