This data
was collected during the calendar year, 1994.
Background Information
The City of Tracy operates a State approved land application program (Order No. 91-
160). The City applies air dried sludge on approximately 2000 acres of City and farmer
owned land, at agronomic rates. During calendar year 1994, the City applied 1365 short
tons or 1238 metric tons of sludge on 394 acres. Based on the EPA monitoring criteria, a
total of four quarterly samples must be collected per year at this application rate and
monitored for the EPA 503 criteria.
The City applies anaerobically digested sludge to air drying beds and the sludge dries for A
at least three months before application. Sludge is stockpiled in the air drying beds and
applied in the fall or spring of each year.
Sampling Procedures
Six samples of air dried sludge were collected during the year. Five samples were also
collected of our digested sludge that is discharged to our drying beds. Metals analyses
were performed on these.
A sample of air dried sludge was collected on March 30, 1994 before a spring application.
This sludge was stockpiled from the previous season. 20 random samples were collected
from the stockpile, 250 ml from each location, and composited into one sample and
analyzed for the EPA 503 metals.
1
