Sludge was applied to fields # 3 and 6 as planned
and indicated in the Pre -application report. Sludge was
applied at a higher rate to the almonds because this farmer
prefers to apply 200-300 pounds of nitrogen per acre. These
rates were recommended by the farmer's fertilization
consultant. Application to the almonds was on a 45 acre
block of field number 19, within and surrounded by the rest
of the 200 acre field.
Analytical Methods
Table 1 shows analytical methods used in the monitoring
program.
Results of soil background monitoring are shown in table 2.
This includes both historical monitoring of all of the K&L
fields and December, 1991 monitoring of fields fertilized
with sludge in October, 1991. None of the waste discharge
criteria have been exceeded.
Sludge Characteristics
Table 4 shows monitoring results on sludge applied in
October, 1991. Sludge quality remains well within hazardous
and designated waste classification criteria.
Table 6 shows annual and cumulative loadings of metals and
nutrients to each of the sludge applied fields. None of
these loadings are in excess of the criteria.
